Thoery Class for 2021 CM Test
(open to everyone)
This class is designed to help students who are planning to take the CM (Certificate of Merit) test in 2021. Even for students not taking the CM test this year, this will be a great class to learn music theory. The class is designed for string and woodwind students levels 4 to Advanced, and piano students levels 3 to Advanced. This will be an 8 week course covering the written theory test, and ear training as well. The last three weeks of the class will be practice theory tests, using previous years’ actual tests for each students’ instrument and level. Every class will provide homework that students must finish at home before the next class. Though this class is aimed toward students taking the CM test, it is rigorous and comprehensive, and will be beneficial for students not taking the test as well.
Because of the pandemic, we will be running the class differently this year.
The class will be held virtually using “Zoom.” All the class materials (class notes and homework) will be sent to each student via email before each class. Students must print the class notes out before the class along with music staff paper for taking notes. Students are expected to print a couple of music staff pages and take notes in order to get the most out of this class. After students finish a homework assignment or practice test, they must scan it and send it back to the teacher to grade. All the classes will be recorded and posted up on our website for students to come and view it again anytime; www.
Each week we will run the same class twice, Saturday at 4 PM and then again Thursday at 7 PM. Students may attend either class each week, or if they have to miss class they can watch the recording. The class is 1 hour and 15 minutes long. Here is the entire schedule for the class.
