Paul Hyun received Cello Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music as well as received Chamber Music Coaches Certificate from San Francsico Conservatory of Music. His main teachers were Stephen Geber, Jean Michel Fonteneau, Metta Watts, as well as he received instruction from Mark Kosower, Stephen Balderston, Emil Colon, Geoffrey Solow, Orlando Cole and Sieun Lin. Paul has performed master classes for David Requiro, Robert de Maine, Kenneth Olson, Jonathan Koh and Laslo Varga. Paul has participated as a member of the San Francisco Youth Symphony, All State Symphony Orchestra, as well as attended Angel Fire, ENCORE School for Strings, Aria International Summer Music Festival, Hidden Valley Music Seminars, Roundtop Orchestra Festival and the National Orchestral Institute. In the past Paul served as principal cellist for the SF Korean Symphony now known as Silicon Valley Philharmonic and Winchester Symphony Orchestras. Paul is currently coaching both Santiago Charter Middle and Canyon Highschool Orchestra Programs. Paul is also the Founder and Director of Improvicelli- a collaboration of cellists from the community who gather entertaining audience from classical all the way to improv styles of music as well as educate music students by teaching them how to think outside the classical realms of music while keeping the fundamentals of their training. Paul has been a featured soloist with Palo Alto Philharmonic, SF Korean Symphony, Prometheus Symphony, San Jose State Symphony and the Gradus ad Parnassum Youth Orchestra. Outside of teaching, Paul’s goal is to teach all music students how to enjoy and love music while learning the way to practice to improve themselves through their own abilities. He has two duos he performs with regularly Celli à Deux- Two cellos performing easily acccesible for all audience concerts through classical all the way to heavy metal and Supersmash Celli- a dynamic duo that performs classical, movie ost, video game, pop arrangements, jazz along with witty banter of Improv. Paul plays on a 2002 Andrew Carruthers Ruggieri Cello and a Concert White Electric Yamaha cello. Fun facts Paul is also the younger brother of violinist Katie Hyun as well as a professional martial artist.
