Through her love and enthusiasm for music, Ashlyn Ashby has been involved in the arts the past 25
years. She teaches violin and coaches chamber groups at Vienna Music Institute in Irvine and performs
with their faculty string quartet. As a string coach for Portola High School, she leads string sectionals
and has participated in Saddleback Valley Unified School District’s faculty chamber concert. Frequently,
she performs with Sea Coast Symphony and Huntington Beach Symphony. In 2024 and 2025, she
adjudicated for California Music Educators Association’s Solo Festival and is a member of Music
Teacher’s Association of California. Her students have won State Honors with invitation to perform in
the Convention Recital. They have also won various competitions, including Satori and Southwestern
Youth Music Festival, and have been accepted into Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, Irvine Honors
Orchestra, and All-Southern Orchestra.
In 2019, Ashlyn Ashby graduated with a Master of Music degree in violin performance from the College-
Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati studying under Dr. Won Bin Yim, and with her Bachelor
of Music degree in violin performance with a minor in eurhythmics from the Cleveland Institute of
Music, studying under David Updegraff and Joan Kwuon. She has attended summer music festivals such
as the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Brevard Music Center studying under William Preucil,
Round Top Summer Institute, and the Aspen Music Festival and School studying under Masao Kawasaki.
In 2010, she was awarded a scholarship and internship to the Sierra Academy of Music and attended the
Mammoth Lakes Music Festival in California.
Ashlyn won her first concerto competition in 2005 and soloed with the Claremont Youth
Symphony Orchestra. She also placed first in the Junior Chamber Music concerto competition
of 2011, performing as soloist with the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra. She competed in the
Satori String Competition of 2010, winning first in its Prodigy Bach, Prodigy Solo, and Open Solo
categories. For many years, Ashlyn had participated in the Suzuki Violin Graduation, completing Level
XII, and the Music Teachers Association Certificate of Merit Program, receiving Branch and Showcase
Honors. She has also enjoyed performing with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Firelands Symphony
Orchestra, Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra, Riverside City College Symphony, Corona Symphony, and La
Sierra University Symphony.
As a chamber music enthusiast, Ashlyn was involved in Junior Chamber Music (JCM). Her piano trio was
accepted in the honors program and toured Austria in 2012. In Ashlyn’s home state of Southern
California, she has performed community service as part of the New World Piano Quintet, playing in
hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, homes for the mentally disabled, and for charity
functions. She has taught private violin lessons and group lessons through music programs such as My
Cincinnati and Cincinnati Strings. In Ashlyn’s free time, she enjoys playing at church, running half
marathons, hiking, and drinking coffee.
